Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Updated: Aug 23

Can we Come Visit?

Yes, we welcome visits from those who have reserved a puppy, but this takes place only on "Gotcha Day" when the puppies are 8 weeks old.

No, we do not allow visits before the puppies reach 8 weeks. The safety and well-being of our puppies, dogs, and family take priority over potential sales.

  • At this young age, puppies are still building their immune systems and aren’t yet protected by vaccinations. Visitors can unknowingly bring in harmful diseases like Parvo or canine influenza on their shoes, hands, or clothing. Parvo, for instance, is highly contagious and could lead to us having to leave our home, as it can take 12 months to 2 years to clear it from the environment—and any new infection resets that timeline.

  • We’re a real family with other responsibilities, and our primary focus is on giving these puppies the best possible start. Remember, these puppies already belong to the families who will take them home—we’re just their caretakers for a short time.

To keep future owners involved, we regularly send text updates and post on social media with photos, milestones, and advice for preparing for your pup. We know how exciting the wait can be, and we aim to make it a fun and interactive experience!

What is Genetic Testing?

Genetic or DNA testing is the "gold standard" for ethical breeders. It involves sending DNA samples from your dog to reputable labs like Paw Print Genetics or Animal Genetics, which conduct thorough analysis. This is a crucial practice, and any breeder who doesn’t take the time and effort to perform these basic health tests is one to avoid. At Outland Aussies, we only breed dogs that are clear of common genetic health conditions.

How much are your puppies?

Our pricing is determined by each individual puppy based on factors such as size, sex, color, markings, eye color, conformation, and overall quality. Occasionally, we offer puppies with minor mismarks or those that are a bit older at a reduced price for pet-only homes. Prices can vary depending on the market and demand.

Our starting prices include full breeding rights unless otherwise specified in the contract. Blue-eyed, small toy, and natural bobtail puppies typically have higher prices. You can find more information and average costs by visiting the link below:

Why are they priced so high?

While this is clear to those who thoroughly research our program, we occasionally receive questions about our pricing. Our costs align with those of any responsible breeder committed to quality. At Outland Aussies, we invest significantly in our litters, from carefully selecting and health testing our sires and dams to providing top-notch care. We also dedicate extensive time to screening buyers, offering lifelong support, and ensuring our puppies are well-rounded and socialized.

Our puppies on average are priced between $2,000 and $3,000, reflecting the care, quality, and dedication we provide. The work we do in socializing and desensitizing the puppies, maintaining our online presence, communicating with buyers, and ensuring a clean, safe environment is a labor of love.

While it’s possible to find cheaper options, these usually come with significant long-term costs in terms of health issues, behavioral problems, and additional expenses. Did you know the average vet bill for a puppy mill or rescue dog can exceed $5,000?

A well-bred puppy from a reputable breeder costs more upfront, but it’s an investment in a healthy, well-adjusted dog. We’re glad you value these qualities and took the time to find us.

Puppies are a 12-15 year commitment, and we’re looking for owners who are as dedicated to their future furry family member as we are.

When can I take my puppy places?

Before taking your puppy around town, ensure that you have visited your veterinarian and your puppy has received a clean bill of health and ALL necessary vaccinations. Safely socializing your puppy is important to creating a well-rounded dog.

How much is the deposit?

We require a non-refundable deposit of $350 to reserve a puppy, which will be applied toward the total purchase price. If your first choice isn’t available, your deposit can be rolled over to the next available litter. For all digital payments an additional fee is applied unless you choose the "Friends and Family" option.

Do you have a health guarantee?

Yes, please refer to our puppy contract document under the "More" menu for details on our health guarantee.

Can you board my puppy?

Yes, if you need us to keep your puppy longer than their 8-week pick-up date, we offer boarding at $25 per day. This fee includes food, worming (if needed), socialization, and plenty of playtime. Any additional vet care required will incur extra costs.

Please note that all boarding arrangements must be approved PRIOR to "Gotcha Day"—no exceptions!

What Should I Expect on Puppy Pickup Day?

On Puppy Pickup Day, you'll receive a detailed briefing on your new puppy's care, including feeding instructions, vaccination schedules, and any other pertinent information. We’ll also provide you with a starter kit that includes a small supply of the food your puppy has been eating, a toy or blanket with familiar scents, and any health records we have. We want to ensure a smooth transition for both you and your puppy.

What Should I Do to Prepare My Home for a New Puppy?

Before bringing your puppy home, make sure to puppy-proof your living space. This includes removing or securing any items that could be harmful if chewed on, setting up a comfortable and safe sleeping area, and ensuring that you have all necessary supplies such as a crate, toys, and grooming tools. It’s also a good idea to establish a routine that includes regular feeding times, playtime, and training sessions.

What Vaccinations and Health Checks Does My Puppy Need?

Puppies require a series of vaccinations to protect them from various diseases. These typically include vaccinations for distemper, parvovirus, and adenovirus, among others. Your veterinarian will provide a vaccination schedule tailored to your puppy’s needs. Regular health checks, including deworming and flea/tick prevention, are also essential to keep your puppy healthy.

How Do I Transition My Puppy to Their New Home?

Transitioning your puppy to a new home can be a significant change. To help with the adjustment, maintain a consistent routine, provide plenty of positive reinforcement, and create a comforting environment. Start with short, supervised introductions to new experiences and people. Patience and consistency will help your puppy feel secure and adjust more quickly.

What is the Best Way to Socialize My Puppy?

Socialization is crucial for a well-rounded puppy. Introduce your puppy to a variety of people, animals, and environments in a controlled and positive manner. Exposure to different sights, sounds, and experiences will help your puppy develop confidence and adaptability. Puppy training classes are also a great way to provide socialization opportunities while teaching basic obedience.

What Should I Know About Training My Puppy?

Training your puppy should start early and involve consistent, positive reinforcement. Basic commands like sit, stay, and come are essential, and socialization with other dogs and people should be encouraged. Training helps build a strong bond between you and your puppy and establishes good behavior patterns from the start. Patience and consistency are key to successful training.

What Should I Do If My Puppy Exhibits Behavioral Issues?

If you notice behavioral issues such as excessive barking, chewing, or separation anxiety, address them early with positive reinforcement techniques. Consistent training and providing appropriate outlets for your puppy’s energy are crucial. If issues persist, consider seeking advice from a professional dog trainer or behaviorist to address any underlying problems.
